If you properly care for your cutting board then it will last you a lifetime. Please follow these simple steps to ensure many years of service out of your handmade wood cutting board.
-
Wash your wood cutting board after each use by hand with mild soap and hot water. Never ever put your board in the dishwasher. Wipe dry with a soft cloth or paper towel and allow it to completely dry upright. Lemon juice can also be used to disinfect the board and remove harsh odors, if necessary.
-
Never leave your cutting board sitting in water. This will cause the board to warp and crack.
-
Allow your boards to air dry overnight after washing. It is best not to leave them laying on the counter or on top/below other items. This prevents all sides from drying and prolonged moisture is your enemy when it comes to the longevity of your wood cutting board.
-
Regularly wax your cutting board. The wax helps prevent moisture and fills in the voids than can harbor bacteria.
-
Waxing after every wash and dry cycle is ideal.
-
We recommend you wax your cutting boards or butcher blocks with a blend of beeswax and food grade mineral oil. We sell a homemade blend which contains much more wax than most of our competitors.
-
Apply a coat of wax with a soft cloth or paper towel, wait about 15 minutes to allow the wax/oil blend to soak into the wood, and then wipe off excess with a different cloth or paper towel.
